Favourite Love Confession: (Love-a-thon 2015)

This is mini-challenge #3 from Alexa Loves Books for the 2015 Book Blogger Love-a-thon! This challenge is for us to share a favorite quote (or even more than one) about love or friendship.

I'm not much for quotes that have to do with love or friendship.

I tend more towards absurd banter:  'My body is a gift from God,' Jared said gravely. 'Except for my hips, which are clearly a gift from the devil.”

Or self power: She was the heir of ash and fire, and she would bow to no one.

With a smattering of bookish love for good measure “She had always wanted words, she loved them; grew up on them. Words gave her clarity, brought reason, shape.”

That being said, I have one quote about love that I feel very strongly about.

“I can listen no longer in silence. I must speak to you by such means as are within my reach. You pierce my soul. I am half agony, half hope. Tell me not that I am too late, that such precious feelings are gone for ever. I offer myself to you again with a heart even more your own than when you almost broke it, eight years and a half ago. Dare not say that man forgets sooner than woman, that his love has an earlier death. I have loved none but you. Unjust I may have been, weak and resentful I have been, but never inconstant. You alone have brought me to Bath. For you alone, I think and plan. Have you not seen this? Can you fail to have understood my wishes? I had not waited even these ten days, could I have read your feelings, as I think you must have penetrated mine. I can hardly write. I am every instant hearing something which overpowers me. You sink your voice, but I can distinguish the tones of that voice when they would be lost on others. Too good, too excellent creature! You do us justice, indeed. You do believe that there is true attachment and constancy among men. Believe it to be most fervent, most undeviating, in F. W."

In my completely objective opinion, I can tell you that this is the best love confession. Of all time. Ever. Always. There will never be a love confession that will make me swoon harder than this one.  It's no surprise it comes from the Queen of love stories - Jane Austen. (I'm just pretending Mansfield Park never happened.)  While Pride & Prejudice might be the bread and butter of my romance tastes (I love a good hate-to-love story), Persuasion will forever reign as the majesty of all love confessions ever.

  1. I have been meaning to read Persuasion for awhile now! I think this year will be the one I make it happen! Because wow... that is one proclamation of love!

  2. That is a nice quote, but I prefer the queen of ash and fire. I think I'd like that on a t shirt!

  3. Yeah, it's a toss up whether Persuasion or Pride & Prejudice is my favourite Jane Austen book! It can be difficult to get used to the style, but once it starts flowing for you, it is well worth it!

  4. That's actually the quote I'm getting put onto my phone case! (The heir of ash and fire - the Persuasion one is WAY too long for a phone case haha!)

  7. I think I might have to read Unspoken based on that quote alone. I really am very easily amused ;)

Gosh, one day I will read some Jane Austen (note to self: save Mansfield Park for last). I've been telling myself this for about 15 years now, heh.

  8. If I look at quotes I always go with powerful ones too, like 'she would bow to no one' but that is one hell of a love confession <3

  9. It is so, so much fun! It was my favourite book of last year? The year before? Must have been the year before.

Yeah, Austen can be hard to get into just because the language is so different. Luckily I went through a kick in middle school where I read a whole bunch of classics for fun (...I was a weird kid...) so I got used to the language early. I think it makes it a lot easier for me, so yay for being a weird kid! And I just have some serious issues with the pairing in Mansfield Park *scowls*

  11. I have so many (good) feelings after reading this quote! So beautiful. I need to read Persuasion now! I've only ever read P&P and S&S, but plan to read Persuasion too :) Also, the Heir of Fire quote - BEST. EVER.

  12. That is quite the spectacular quote. I like the pairing with Richard "hubba, Hubba" Armitage looking his most smitten and intense. He would make a seriously swoon-worthy Wentworth.

  13. My heart was bound up in herb, the night I checked out you." to grasp that your presence makes everything alright is incredibly affirming and caring. Add a splash of happiness and love, and it's a winning quote, for more information click here 10 amazing love quotes by Mother Teresa.

  14. Yeah, while Pride & Prejudice is my go to reread, Persuasion is tied as my favourite of the lot. (And I'm actually rereading Sense & Sensibility right now!)

  15. I know right? I was like who is spectacularly swoonworth enough for this quote....and then I was like why did I even have to think about that?! CLEARLY Armitage as Thornton is the best. Also YES I want him as Wentworth! Who would you cast as his Anne though? I can actually see the actress from Persuasion or maybe France O'Connor? I'm not sold on either of them yet though

  16. Anne's a hard one to cast - Frances O'Connor would actually be pretty great. What about Emily Mortimer? hmmm... Fantasy Austen adaptation casting.

  17. You know I've never actually seen her in anything (but I have seen some stuff she's been a voice actress in). She certainly looks the part though!
