Reader Problems Tag

Created by About To Read (and I was tagged by Kirsty at Studio Reads)

1. You have 20,000 books on your TBR. How in the world do you decide what to read next?
Well, right now I'm trying to just read the books in my apartment. It's....great.... It does make narrowing books down a bit easier at the moment though. Usually I either binge read a series, or I browse the library ebooks for a mood read. (I let myself pick ONE book that was not originally on my Goodreads TBR. I've got to put limits on myself or my TBR pile will NEVER go down.  Let's be real, it's still not happening but...at least I'm trying?)

2. You're halfway through a book and you're just not loving it. Do you quit or are you committed?
I very rarely DNF. In fact I very rarely even put the book back to come back to later, although it's been happening a lot more frequently since I've started blogging.  If I'm really, really not into the book I'll usually just skim or at least read the ending so I know what happens. (Because even if I hate a book...I NEED to know!)

3. The end of the year is coming and you're so close, but so far away on your Goodreads reading challenge. Do you try to catch up and how?

AHAHAHAHA!! Are you one of my Goodreads friends?  Have you stopped my feed from showing up because you get bombarded by like 20 picture books at a time? (WHY WON'T GOODREADS LET ME STOP UPDATING MY FEED IF I ADD THE BOOKS ON MY PHONE?? I have the settings turned off so it won't...yet still it does.) I introduced the 5 year-old to Goodreads. I'm 50% ahead on my challenge already.  Yeah. That's not going to be a problem.

4. The covers of a series you love do not match. How do you cope?
Honestly this wasn't something that bothered me until recently. And it still doesn't bother me that much...I just want all the covers to be pretty.  All my books are so worn from rereading that it's not look like much to begin with though.

5. Everyone and their mothers love a book you really don't like. Who do you bond with over their shared feelings?
I usually have someone on my side.  Shannon reads a lot of the same books I do, and we're usually more or less around the same rating on books. And if we're not, there's always at least one blogger friend who agrees with me!

6. You're reading a book and you are about to start crying in public. How do you deal?
Umm...I don't know how many times I've had to tell people at the gym.."Oh I just have...allergies...."

I do not have allergies.  But I do try and censor what I read in public so there is less crying haha

7. A sequel of a book you love just came out, but you've forgotten a lot from the prior novel. Will you re-read the book? Skip the sequel? Try to find a synopsis on Goodreads? Cry in frustration?!?
I used to reread a series EVERY time a new book came out.  (Just think how many times I've read the first Harry Potter book. Especially since I've also reread the series entirely. Twice.)  I don't have time for that anymore, so I often wikipedia/google the plot and hope it was a big enough book that SOMEONE has written a fleshed out description of what happens!

8. You do not want anyone. ANYONE. borrowing your books. How do you politely tell people no when they ask?
Ahaha...politely you say?  I straight up say....you can't borrow that.  Sorry, not sorry.  Mostly I don't care - I totally shove books at people.  BUT there are a few books I don't ever lend out.  Like Pride & Prejudice.  Books that I know I will die if I don't have them RIGHT NEXT to me available to read if I need to read them. (I am regretting lending out my Alanna books...I NEED THEM SO BADLY. Thank god for ebooks. And libraries.)

9. Reading ADD. You’ve picked up and put down 5 books in the last month. How do you get over your reading slump?

I've had this problem quite a bit in the past year, and it's...become like bacteria. You make medicine to stop it...but then it learns how to work around that medicine and become SUPER BACTERIA.  Usually I just reread a book I love, and nine times out of ten that still works for me. (Rereading Daughter of the Forest last month is exactly how I got out of my slump last month!)  If that isn't working, I'll try reading something that is totally my THING (i.e. fairy tale retellings, etc.)  But sometimes it's something completely out of the blue - the slump before that I binge read any historical romance novel I could find.  And sometimes I have to accept that I need to go play Pokemon or watch a tv series instead. So I've become pretty adept at coming up with new plans haha

10. There are so many new books coming out that you’re dying to read! How many do you actually buy?

I very, very rarely buy books I haven't read.  Half the books in that middle row: The grand total of brand new books I've bought in the past 3 years -  Throne of Glass, Lynburn Legacy, and Graceling series.  So usually it's just when I already own a series and KNOW that I'm going to reread it.  But now any books by the above authors will be auto-buys.

1 1. After you’ve bought the new books you can’t wait to get to, how long they sit on your shelf before you get to them
Ok if it's a book I've pre-ordered (i.e. the above books), then immediately.  Otherwise....let's just say that The Wee Free Men (which I LOVED) traveled with me through four cross-state moves.  So...that was probably a good 6 years haha.  This is why I'm TRYING to force myself to read the books in my apartment! It's disgraceful!

And I'm tagging anyone who hasn't done this tag and wants to!

  2. I'm the same way when it comes to rereading books in a series when a new one comes out. You can imagine how many times I've read the Wheel of Time books by Robert Jordan.

  4. Awesome - I try to always finish my books once started too - but sometimes they just quietly get put aside and I never speak of these again...

  5. Your bookshelves are so neat! Your Tolkien books look very fancy :)

I can't re-read series until they're all done, so when new books come out I have to flick through the previous book (or just look for a synopsis) to jog my memory. And there's so many series these days!

  7. Sadly, they're all my brother's. I just commandeered them...so I suppose that pretty much makes them mine then? Yeah I definitely don't have the time or even the stamina to reread series every time a new book comes out. I kind of miss being able to do that though.

  8. Yes, I am one of your Goodreads friends. (But at least your updates makes my friends updates look a little... less dead. lol) Anyway, this looks like a bunch of fun. I'm so going to do one myself.

  9. That's good lol! I think I've finally started to get him slowly weaned off of reading books for 4 hours straight. And hey, I'm getting a good education in what kind of picture books I like! And you should - I'm a bit obsessed with tags, so you'll likely see quite a few of them in your feed haha
