Top Ten Tuesday - Books At The Top Of My Summer TBR List

So for this week's Top Ten Tuesday (courtesy, as always, of The Broke and Bookish), the subject is Top Ten Books At The Top Of My Summer TBR list.  I'm going to interpret this as top ten books I am most excited about being released this summer.  Here's my list:

1. The Thing About Luck - Cynthia Kadohata

2. The Moon and More - Sarah Dessen

3. The Ocean at the End of the Lane - Neal Gaiman

4. The Light in the Ruins - Chris Bohjalian

5. Stormbringers (Order of Darkness #2) - Philippa Gregory

6. He's Gone - Deb Caletti

7. Raven Flight (Shadowfell #2) - Juliet Marillier

8. The White Princess - Philippa Gregory (she's having a busy summer!)

And last but not least, two books that are NOT coming out in the summer but I am SO EXCITED for when they do come out:

 9.  In the Age of Love and Chocolate (Birthright #3) - Gabrielle Zevin

10.  And of course, the next book in the Abarat series, The Price of Dreams (Abarat #4)  by Clive Barker.  There isn't a cover set for this yet as it is projected to come out a year or so from now, but I will leave you guys with some of Clive Barker's artwork from the Abarat series!

That's it for this week's TTT!  What books made it to your list?

  1. I forgot about The Ocean at the End of the Lane - I've been looking forward to that one all year. It's almost out!

    1. I think it's been on every YA blog's list I've seen so far! She's just such a consistently great writer.

    1. I know, right? I feel like I haven't read an adult Neil Gaiman story in AGES, so I'm excited to get back into it (although I adored Coraline, Graveyard Book, and Stardust)

  4. I really want to read the new Sarah Dessen novel at some point!
    Great list, happy reading! :)

    1. I feel like I'm going to particularly like the plot of this one. I love all her books, of course, but a lot of the story lines aren't as easily connected to my life, and the conflict between moving forward and staying is something I've been through, so it should be interesting reading how her characters deal with it!

  5. The Light in the Ruins sounds great. Another day, another addition to the tbr list!

    1. Chris Bohjalian is one of my favourite authors. He's one of the few authors out there that really writes in a variety of genres (sort of), so all of his books are always completely new, and ALWAYS wonderful to read.

    1. Neil Gaiman is always such a wild trip when you read his things. Usually gruesome and rather disturbing, but it's always entertaining!

  8. I'm surprised that The Price of Dreams has a release date. Hopefully it doesn't end up being pushed back again and again. The delays cost the series a lot of its fans, unfortunately. But I'm still excited that it's going to come out. It's the final one, isn't it?

    1. Yeah I don't believe in their release dates - I think that was just a predicted one too. He's expanded the series into a quintet, so there's supposed to be two more books coming...which I am also not convinced by because each book comes with another delay and another book tagged on to the end haha. Not that I'm complaining (at least about the second part), the more time I get to delve into Abarat's world the better.

I am really disappointed about such big breaks between books - I am the only avid Abarat supporter I know, which seems like such a shame because not only is the artwork just awe inspiring, the universe and it's players are completely new and they all have connected background stories - similar to J.K. Rowling I might say. I wish more people connected to this story like I do!

    1. As soon as I can get my hands on it, be assured that it will happen. Exams and concerts be damned!

  10. Sooo much Philippa Gregory... and yet, never enough! I JUST finished Order of Darkness #1 and had no idea that the second one was coming out this summer. How fortuitous!

    1. I'm a little iffy on her first delve into writing for a younger audience. I didn't DISlike it, but I also didn't love it the way I've loved her other novels. I'm hoping the second book will really draw me in the way the first one didn't!

    2. I know what you mean - I wasn't sure why the novel was as short as it was and the plot(s) felt weirdly disconnected from each other (nuns + werewolves = ??). But the characters are promising (love the relationship between Isolde and Ishraq) and I'll definitely check out the second one.

  11. I still want to read Clive Barker at some point. I have a few of his books but just haven't gotten to them yet. Have a great Summer of reading!

    1. He's so delightfully creepy (although his Abarat series is also filled with a lot of beauty and wonder not found in his other novels). He's a lot like Neil Gaiman in that way, so if you like Neil Gaiman definitely bump him up to the top of your list!
